Association Las Tias (the Aunties) is an independent, non profit organization set up by a group of merchant women in Leon. The organization started in 1989, focusing on kids with drug troubles, such as glue sniffing. But seeing the needs of children who where at high risk of getting into drug taking, they extended their focus to younger ages to prevents others falling into the exact same habits. To give the youngsters much better attention, las tias was divided into two programs for different age group. The initial one is a preventative program for kids from 6 to 14 years that directly helps 100 child workers from a local market and indirectly assists 500 children, offering support and opportunities in school, art and dance. The second is a vocational program for 14 to 18 years, focusing on group of 30 youth. These youths obtain psychological and recreational therapy and are also incorporated into workshop for carpentry, photography, and leather work, as well as primary and secondary school. They are often in the will need of volunteers, due to the fact is a way that allow the kids to discover distinct cultures, learn diverse technics, and a exceptional experience for both of them, the volunteer and the kids.
